Reflections of Prickett Dam – Linda Chamberlain

"UPPCO’s proposal to allow cutting, chipping, and/or removal of diseased, dead, and downed trees, trenching to install electrical lines, placement of walking paths, filling of low land, and clearing of brush and shrubbery appears to be in conflict with the intent of the FERC license and associated plans."
– From Agency letters (USFS, USFWS, MDNR) to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) raising concerns over Upper Peninsula Power Company’s (UPPCO) proposed plans related to residential development at five U.P. reservoirs, including Prickett Dam (Jan 2006). The reservoir is owned by UPPCO, a subsidiary of WPS Resources Corporation.

Petenwell Lake, a FERC regulated reservoir in Wisconsin,
reflecting the removal of stumps and establishment of viewsheds.

We are writing you to help us obtain a Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) hearing at Lake Petenwell. The basis of our request is simple: FERC has not responded to our properly filed complaint of January 4, 2002, which is approximately 2½ years ago. The License holder, Wisconsin River Power Company (WRPCO), has turned a deaf ear to our requests for compliance with their license and it is impossible for us to protect the public right to use project lands and waters without the assistance of FERC and the willingness of WRPCO to comply with its license.
– President of the Petenwell Castle Rock Property Owners Association – July 2004 letter to Senator Feingold. Petenwell is licensed to Wisconsin River Power Company, which is owned by Wisconsin Public Service Corporation, a subsidiary of WPS Resources Corporation.
