Sample Letter 3

As a life long resident of this area, I have seen many changes, particularly the gradual development of previously undisturbed land. Yet, there was always the understanding with UPPCO that I would have the opportunity to camp, fish, hunt, snowmobile and ride my ATV on lands owned by them in exchange for being allowed to maintain dams for their profit.

I grew up fishing and camping along Bond Flowage and Lake Victoria and now enjoy the same experiences with my children. To gain renewal of their license obtained in 2003, UPPCO stated they had no plans to develop the lands surrounding these reservoirs. I was very upset to learn that their plans have now changed, especially plans for the residential development that are in direct conflict with the promises made to gain relicensing. I do not want to see these lands destroyed by development that is clearly not consistent with the purpose of "…protecting and enhancing the scenic, recreational and other environmental values of the project."

I urge FERC to halt all development and nullify any agreements already signed until a full review by FERC can be completed. It must be insured that UPPCO/WPS are in full compliance with the existing license, including protection of our natural resources. I also request that you to reopen a new comment period with public meetings.
