Sample Letter 2

I am a life long resident of Ontonagon County. I choose to live here because of the quality of life the area has to offer. As an avid outdoorsman, my interests include hunting, trapping, fishing, canoeing, hiking and observing wildlife. I heat my home with a wood burning stove. I was raised to appreciate nature and not abuse our natural resources but more importantly, I was taught that my word was my bond and a handshake was enough to seal any deal. This is why I feel betrayed.

The Upper Peninsula Power Company (UPPCO) agreed to terms and conditions in 2003 when their license to generate power was renewed. They agreed to protect our resources but they specifically stated "…because UPPCO does not propose significant development near the reservoirs…". Now, only two years later, they plan to sell the non-project land to developers.

I believe it is the responsibility of FERC to either hold UPPCO accountable to the terms of their licensing agreement or the entire process must be reopened with a new public comment period. I urge you to deny UPPCO's requests until other alternatives can be thoroughly considered.
